What leader do you prefer? I've used Rio for a long time and still haven't had any problems. I like the Rio leaders with the elastic shock absorbers attached to them. They flat out work when you hook into a large fish.

I use a furled leader from Feather Craft with RIO tippet material tied to the end. I haven't had any trouble with the RIO but sometimes the flourocarbon is hard to tie knot in which is a common complaint with flouro.

My buddy uses some Frog Hair but only in 8X. That is like fishing with human hair and you are constantly snapping off flies during a back cast.

8x is ridiculously small stuff. I hardly ever use 8x. Or 7x for that matter.

Yeah, I use 7x but it is usually in areas like the Smith where the trout are highly selective.

It's amazing how 7x and 8x can make a world of a difference when fishing for selective trout.

Leaders, i have used orvis for a long time no problems, but being of a can i make it better and cheaper type, i started messwing with tying tapered leaders(knots) heard of furell leaders bought one 12.95 liked it did some research by takeing it apart to see how it was costructed, came up with what i think is agood idea. Years ago when i was a teenager(long long long ago) i used to make plains indians bows and arrows and one of the things i learned was how to make a bow string out of deer sneiw, i have applied this technque to making furel leaders and it works pretty good. It is very easy system, once i get it prefected and settle on the right type and diam. of material i might try and market them, so until then i will just enjoy making them and using. the margin of price for materials and jiggs is very cheap, so if any one out there is interested in trying one email me and i will be happy to send or make one to your preference. length, line test happy trails charlie
