Mitchell Today 10-09-10 (Pic Heavy)

Post by hookedontrout on Sat Oct 09, 2010 9:34 pm

My son (Roll Cast) and I hit the Mitchell this afternoon. Fishing was pretty slow with only a rainbow fingerling in the first few holes. Then Andrew hooked a nice brookie that was about 14-15 inches and heavy. Met a few other fishermen, who also stated that fishing was slow today. However, as we were packing up and leaving just before dark, Andrew noticed fish jumping and we decided to drift a BWO into the area with the action. This was our first experience with a hatch and in the space of about 15 minutes, we caught another 4 or 5 rainbows. What a great way to end the day!

Nice! Those are some healthy looking fish. The Mitchell is one of the tougher DH streams here in NC. The fish seem to always be spread out and harder to find. Looks like you guys found them though! Thanks for sharing!

Nice fish! However, that's not the first report I've seen this week that said the ditch was fishing slow...maybe it didn't get the full stocking? Kinda weird since Stone mtn is absolutely full of 'em right now.

Like Tyler said, the stockers look surprisingly healthy this year. Most of the fish I caught last week had full fins and were pretty colorful, much like the ones in your photos.

The state also stocked some dramatically larger fish into many DH waters. So far, Wilson Creek probably receives some of the largest. I've seen some brutes in Wilson.

We are headed to Stone Mtn this week, so I am glad to hear it is full of fish. Thanks!

Awesome fish porn! Those rainbows are awfully colorful for stock fish. Very nice! All this talk of pigs at Wilson Creek is making me want to go fishing!

From what I have seen so far they have not stocked ours as much as usual. Probably a good thing. The water is low. The fish I have caught were bigger than the 11" average. Gonna try to get down to the Mitchel this winter at least once. In-laws live in Dobson.
