Stone Mtn
Was able to get out last Saturday for some much needed fishing. The forecast read upper 70s in the mountains, so I took off. Usually by April I give up the DH streams and fish almost exclusively wild waters and bluelines (looking forward to fishing the bluelines again).
Small, but hard fighting brown taken on the East Prong.
Widow's Creek Falls. Not many fish. Did see some small trout, but they were few and far between.

Sorry we missed you. Roll Cast and I spent spent a few hours at Stone Mountain on Saturday also, in the late afternoon. Didn't see as many fish as expected but tried to do less sight fishing and actually read the water. Casted to a nice spot by a rock and caught a pretty brookie on the third cast. It was still crowded at 4PM and I suspect that spooked some fish but still had a nice day. Always wondered about that hole with the falls. Have you ever had luck on the bluelines in this park?

Re: Stone Mtn
Left about 4pm, so probably left when you guys were just arriving. Hate I missed you guys!
Widow's Creek was not very exciting. I fished upstream a good ways but saw very little in the way of fish that could open their mouth wide enough to take a #14 Para Adams. Haven't explored the wild waters in the park extensively, but I do know Garden Creek and Harris Creek both have a decent population of wild browns and rainbows. Stone Mtn Creek is supposedly a decent stream as well. Usually when I go to Stone Mtn, I fish the DH waters. The bluelines deep in the WNC mountains hold much better wild trout fishing IMO. With that being said, if you drive down Longbottom Rd. past the park, you'll come across Basin Creek in Doughton Park. Decent wild trout fishing.

Re: Stone Mtn
If you ever see a fly fisher (of Asian descent) with one or two boys, ages 11 and 12, in a silver Honda Pilot, that's probably us, so stop by and say hi! We would love to meet up and say thanks for all the help. We've gone way up Garden and caught a lot of ticks. We walked up Basin Creek last summer and it looked promising so we will try it again this year.
