Gudebrod
A fellow blogger recently posted news that Gudebrod Inc., famous amongst fly fisherman/tyers/rod builders for their tying thread (Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Orvis tying thread is manufactured by Gudebrod). Well, Gudebrod was forced to lay off 60-65 employees. Stock up while you can if you're a Gudebrod fan...
Re: Gudebrod
That's discouraging. Orvis 12/0 is about all I use for flies anymore, and Gudebrod is the only thread I use for rod building. Hope they aren't closing down completely.
Re: Gudebrod
I've yet to find a thread that's as strong as Gudebrod thread. Really hope they don't close too!
Re: Gudebrod
I just read an article that stated that that was the entire Gudebrod workforce, but they hope to secure financing soon so they can open back up. More than likely we'll be using cheap foreign thread soon. Apparently the roots of the company actually go back well into the 1800s. Unfortunate if they shut down permanently.
Re: Gudebrod
The fly fishing industry has been hit hard over the past few years. A lot of fly shops are being forced to close their doors. One of the shops up in Winston Salem was just forced to shut their doors. If you haven't been established for a number of years, and have a good customer base you likely won't make it right now. I hate it for them. There's a light at the end of the tunnel I guess. The question is "when will we reach it"?
Re: Gudebrod
I use several different brands of thread foreign an domestic. I hate to have a choice taken away. They make good product.
