make a set of tying tools with any style or shaped handle you wanted? What would you want? Bigger or smaller? Knurled, grooved, or slick? We are testing some powder coating stuff out for a project and it occurred to me that some sporty looking tools could be made with it as a finish. The metals teacher seemed interested in the tool angle. He said draw them out and he would help me make them. So I am interested in what you all think. Suggestions welcome.

Guess this didn't interest anyone much.

Here's what I have for a slightly different idea. I walked by a big bin of old and probably on their way to the dump machine parts. Saw these knobs laying there. Ask if I could have them and here we go for a different take on tying tools.

If you could.... Standuptyingtools

I haven't used them much yet but will test throughly. Opinions please?

I like the idea of the knobs. Most fly tying tools seem a little small to me. Knurled would be my preference.

I think you're on to something. Looks really good! How do they feel in your hands? Pretty easy to hold?

Thank you all Smile

I am going to probably try the knurl when we have a chance to machine some from stock.

They have a pretty good feel. A bit heavier than I am use to. They sit in the hand pretty good.

I like the idea and look. I am not experienced enough to give a strong opinion. How does the whip finisher work out? Seems like a longer shaft would be a benefit.

Thank you Smile

I based the whip finisher on one I had for probably 10 years. The length of the shaft seems to feel good when I tied some floating woolly worms for the river bluegill last night.

I've made some with longer shafts and even wider gaps with the doll house parts. They always felt awkward to me.
