Tying today...
We're snowed in today. I'm not gonna run the risk of killing myself trying to get down to Charlotte for the Show. The roads are COMPLETELY covered in snow. We have 8 inches on the ground here in Kannapolis. I'll take the opportunity to get some tying done today.
Re: Tying today...
Tying would probably be the best way to spend the day for me to. I need to get my sub surface smallie stuff up to par again. Probably also need to inventory the standard nymph box and tie the missing spots back. Hares Ears, Princes and the like.
I seem to go thru a tying slump when I don't get to fish much. Never been able to figure it out. Must be the lack of excitement of the trip process.

Yeah, I'm in need of filling the gaps in my boxes too.
I do the same thing. It seems like I do a TON of tying before a trip, but when I get back, I do little if any.

I'm new here to the forums. I'll start of by saying Hi! I've got a great pattern as far as nymphs go. I'll share with you guys. It's call the Possie Bugger. Like a hare's ear it imitates a caddis pupae or cased caddis
Possie Bugger Pattern:
Hook: TMC 3761 #8-16
Bead: Gold or black, appropriate to hook size, tungsten if you want it to really get down.
Weight: Couple wraps of lead or substitute for extra weight
Thread: Black Uni Thread 6/0
Tail: Aussie Possum or woodchuck
Rib: Pearl Flashabou and coppper wire
Hackle: Brown partridge or CDC in grey or brown
Collar: Black dubbing
Body: Wapsi Awesome Possum
I also have a link for a video on tying this fly if anyone wants I'll be happy to post it. This is a wonderful fly. I've caught many fish here in Oregon with it and I'm sure it will work just about anywhere . Also a great addition in any nymph box.
I tie these in #6 for fishing for steelhead here in Oregon as well.
Good luck, hope you guys thaw out quickly and get some time to fish. We're used to a ton rain during the winters here in the Pacific North West. We fish a lot of high water this time of year.

Welcome aboard Dave!! Glad to have you.
Looks like an excellent fly...Anything with Awesome Possum dubbing and Flashabou is bound to be a good one.
