Online Fly Tying Contest??...

I know a lot of you guys tie, or want to learn how to tie. Would a friendly weekly (or monthly) online fly tying contest interest any of you guys? Over on the SEFFF they do one weekly and have succeeded with it. If any of you guys are interested, let me know what day of the week would be best and we'll go from there. It's a great opportunity for tyers to post pictures of their flies and receive tips and guidance if needed.

Great idea Brad! One thing that could be changed on the fly (negative) and something you like a bout the fly (positive).

Monday would probably be the best time for me. What kind of time frame are you thinking? I like a short time window say 2 or 3 hours. Not sure how a multi day thing works to me.

How you gonna pick the pattern or style?

I say that the fly is selected on monday. Let it run all week, and then anounce the winner on the following monday with the new weeks pattern. That way there is no rush and if someone needs to pick up material for it they have time.

Monday sounds good to me. I was thinking about maybe posting a poll or letting you guys suggest patterns to tie for each week. I could post the fly pattern on Monday evening and call time towards 9:00 PM or so...

Sounds like fun, if I could ever get my sizable butt behind my vise and start trying. I think the Monday to Monday thing works well.

Monday-Monday sounds like a plan to me. We could start this coming Monday if you guys want. What kind of flies are you guys interested in tying? I'll post a poll after I get some ideas...

I would go with what is in season and most likely to be a hot fly. That way any new guys not only learn how to tie it but also what time of year to use it. It might be cool if we can dig up some history on each pattern as well and learn where it comes from and such.

This time of year would be midges, small stone-fly nymphs, mayfly nymphs, caddis larva, and small bait fish patterns. Dries BWO, winter stonefly adults, midge adults, and smallish caddis adults.

Great idea guys...When Spring/Summer comes around, we'll have PLENTY of flies to tie according to the season.
