Foam Bodied Flies
I was glad to get back on the water this week and now I am charged to get the vise out and try to tie some flies.
I saw Tyler's post on his Brookie bash and noted the foam body fly that they were feeding on. I am intrigued by this because one of my gripes was my inability to fish some of the rough ripples and water effectively. My fly would easily get drowned and no matter how much shake and goo I put on them it just floated a few feet and got sunk. I want a fly that will float the rough water and sucker punch the DH trout.
I have a lot of luck with a Stimulator pattern. Can you tie that with foam?
Need some input on the foam body flies!

Re: Foam Bodied Flies
I tie a lot of my Stimulators with foam. Works very well! Check out the video Brad posted. Easy to do, just take a small strip of foam and wrap it around the shank just as you would with dubbing.

I bought every color they had at Claire's (felt a little silly) and love tying with this foam. It is easy to work with and floats well. Any of you using a waterproof spray on them before you fish them?

Re: Foam Bodied Flies
I've never used a waterproof spray on my dries. Excellent idea though. Would definitely help towards keeping your dry afloat.
