I believe they have caught these in Lake Julian in Asheville before. Julian is a cooling lake for a coal fired power plant. It's a bit unusual lake for WNC. There a big population of Tilapia. They will eat a fly. Caught one last year. The Pacus is a aquarium fish based on a brief net search. Probably a fish tank dumping.

Yeah, fish tank dumping is a common occurrence. We had a large gator obviously placed into a reservoir down the road. People keep them and then learn that these animals aren't always best as pets...
