8/5/10 - Fishing Location advice? Empty 8/5/10 - Fishing Location advice?

Post by kyledrum2002 Thu Aug 05, 2010 6:39 am

I am looking to get out for a few hours Saturday morning. Preferably sunrise to about 10am. Any suggestions on a place to go to net a few fish. I live in Hickory so I am fairly central to most stream locations.

Thanks in advance

The closest trout to Newton is the Lake James Tailrace on the Catawba. Between access problems and just adequate fishing, it's sketchy though. I've never fished it, I need to check it out though!

The Davidson River isn't too bad, but I would go a good ways upstream of the hatchery. From the hatchery-downstream, the fish are dying from the heat/lack of dissolved oxygen. Higher elevation wild streams are fishing the best right now.

Of course any accessible pond will almost always have bluegill and bass!

Good luck!

Upper Wilson Creek, around Lost Cove Creek and Gragg Prong area are my favorite when I have the time to get there. But it shouldn't be any further from Hickory than Valle Crucis, which I can tell you is dead right now except for a couple of hard to get to spots.
