Week 25...Crawfish...
Here's a unique pattern for week 25, crawfish. Always a good idea to have some crawfish patterns in your box if you're after smallies (or large trout).
Re: Week 25...Crawfish...
Here's two thoughts I have been working on.
I like the Claw-dad style. I don't like the idea of buying the claws each fly. So
Hook: Mustad #6 Streamer
Weight: Med. Dumbbell plain
Claw: Chamos
Under-body: Poly Yarn gray
Legs: Spinner bait skirts olive/orange
This is a 'rough' idea of my own.
Chamos Craw
Hook: Mustad #6 Streamer
Weight: Med. Dumbbell plain
Under-body: Poly Yarn gray
Claws: Spinner bait skirts olive/orange
Legs: Grizzly Hackle
Antenna: Olive Silly Legs
Shell: Chamos
Rib: Med wire

This is a pattern I've been fishing for quite a while. Its very effective on redbreast and smallies, but never tested on trout. The claws are coated with flex a ment which seems to trap the air inside. If you drop this thing in fairly calm water, it will stand up on its tail with its claws sticking straight up. Stands out like a sore thumb.
Hook: Umpqua #10 curved nymph
Thread: 8/0 olive
Claws: 2mm tan foam
Body: Olive hare'e wiggle dubbing with a couple sili legs
Bead: Copper colored tungsten
Head: A touch of natural comparadun hair

Re: Week 25...Crawfish...
Good looking flies fellas. Hoping to get to the tying bench tomorrow evening. Tying has been few and far between for me lately.
Brad- Good looking fly! That smallie in your fishing report thought so too! Pretty sure I've got some spinnerbait skirts that can be salvaged for tying. You've given me some ideas!
Mark- Looks very fishy! I'm digging the innovative ideas. I'd imagine when it sinks, that beadhead dragging along a mud bottom will stir the water up. Should help to draw attention from nearby fish.
Bullship- Those are incredible! Have you tried them for carp?
The "contest" doesn't really have any set rules. There's no winners, voting, and such. More along the lines of an opportunity to show off your patterns. Every other weekend, (Friday through Monday), we tie a certain pattern (picked by suggestions) and post them here. We won't do a contest this weekend, but will pick back up next weekend.

Those rules sound like they suit me just fine. I just like to tie new patterns and learn what i can. I haven't fished these yet, but I have smallies in mind. They're too big for the carp in my neck of the woods.
