Wilson Creek 4/7-4/8
I was finally able to cut the apron strings and get my feet in the water this week. My buddy and I decided to fish Wilson Creek Thursday and hit it hard until darkness fell that evening. We were a tad troubled to see a guy sitting just inside the DH boundary with his bait bucket and multiple rods bobber fishing. Unfortunately cell signal stops about 30 min before you get to the road or we would have called the NCWRC. We hoped the poachers had left us a few trout to catch. We were not disappointed by the fish as we managed to catch a bunch. Surprisingly, I caught a lot of Brown Trout this trip in addition to the usual Brookies and Bows. The crowds were light on Thursday so we were able to fish most anywhere we wanted to and the fish seemed to not mind multiple anglers in one spot. Big ugly Stimulators really seemed to work well for me as did a Parachute Nymph or two. Friday was just as good for the fish and we continued to catch lots of trout between the two of us. The crowd did start to pick up Friday with some crowding in the popular spots. This was easily remedied by finding some spots on the upper end of the creek with steep access that only the hard core fishermen would brave to catch fish. Overall it was a great two days and Wilson Creek did not disappoint!
A little underwater action from a Brownie.
Fixing to release a nice Rainbow.

Looks like you guys showed those fish whose boss! Good to see you guys got into some brownies too! NCWRC went hog wild on the number of browns stocked this year.
Re: Wilson Creek 4/7-4/8
Yes! I was VERY surprised that almost half of the fish I caught were Browns. Last year it was all Brooks. The number of Rainbows seemed the same as last year but the Bows I caught this time were a little more colorful than last year. I thought a couple might have been holdovers from last year. I just wished they could survive June 1st and hang around to get a little bigger.

Nice fish, glad you had a good time. I really like the Wilson, though
I haven't had much luck there. if you see poachers, you do get cell service on the bridge right by the parking area. The ranger gave me his cell phone number to report poachers. 828 310 5045.

If you go right after the first week of the month when they stock you usually can clean up. Of course we only have one more month of restock before it reverts to general waters.

When I was there on the 6th they were doing some "re-stocking". Hatchery guy said they expect them to be heavily poached the first week so they've started putting more in the 2nd week.
