Boone Fish Kill...
BP finally finished the cap we've all been anxiously waiting for. Looks like the oil spill is history (I hope). If you're a NC fisherman who enjoys fishing the upper Watauga River in NC, don't get too giddy about the BP spill being contained. The BB & T in Boone screwed up. Big time. Apparently a contractor who was spreading asphalt sealant on the BB & T parking lot, failed to prevent the sealant from washing into this creek during a rainstorm. You just don't spread harmful chemicals around during heavy rain. All aquatic life (trout, crayfish, insects, darters, baitfish, and of course I'm sure anything that drank from the water is dead). 97 trout were found dead in only 1.5 miles of this Watauga River tributary.
Boone Fish Kill
This is making me crazy. I live less than a mile from the BB&T and the contamination has already spread from Hodge's creek to Winkler's Creek, it's only a matter of time before it gets in the Watauga, and then we're screwed for the rest of the year at least. How completely irresponsible! Even I know that you don't seal pavement before a storm, and I'm just a cook. So far BB&T hasn't released the name of the paving company, I'll keep you posted.

Re: Boone Fish Kill...
Please do keep us informed! I really hope there isn't a fish kill on the Watauga.
Re: Boone Fish Kill...
Can't imagine the tailwater being wiped out. The upper Watauga is bad enough...
