Still not too many details. I fished the Watauga yesterday about 2 miles from the spill site and it was fine, in fact I spooked a 20"+ monster brown and spotted several 12-14 inchers, although the only trout I landed yesterday was 6". Doesn't look good though...

Re: boone fish kill
Good to hear for sure. Was this upstream of the confluence of Hodges Creek and the Watauga or downstream?

Here's the latest info I can find on the fish kill, the name of the paving company is included if you're interested in calling them or at the very least not hiring them. I've been working crazy hours this month so I haven't had a chance to go down to Hodge's Creek yet and check it out. Tuesday I was on the Watauga about 3 miles downstream of the HC confluence and everything looked fine. People around here are pissed and now I've learned there was a small raw oil spill in town that got into Boone Creek, a tributary of the New River. We've got to do more to protect our waters when they run right through the middle of town like that.

Re: boone fish kill
Another spill!?!?! Sheesh! If these spills keep happening like this, there won't be any fish left in Boone!
Thanks for the update. I don't necessarily scold the contractor. He didn't know. If he was dumping it into streams intentionally it's another story. Of course he, (or the business) should be held accountable though. Mistakes happen, but mistakes can be prevented with common sense!

Re: boone fish kill
Common sense would have told him to at least sandbag the storm drain. At least this was downstream from our town reservoir.
