Fishing within a day's drive.
Trying to formulate a Plan B for my Cherokee fishing trip. Our current plans are getting shaky due to some folks pulling out. My usual fishing partner and I were thinking about a week of being trout bums, living out of a truck and fishing anywhere we can get into the water.
Western NC and TN in the GSMNP is the obvious choice for our week but I have been entertaining the thought of going out of state... way out of state. Our time parameters are Monday to Sunday, roughly a week. Maybe 24 hours drive in one day is the furthest I would drive in a day. If you had a week and could leave the state where would you go and what waters would you fish? If I am gonna do it I want the trip to be fun and memorable.

Arkansas
If I had a week to fish, I would probably head over to the White River and Little Red River in Arkansas. By car, it would take about 14 hours. You could explore the Smokies, TN tailwaters, etc on your way west via I-40. You may need to re-route though, as both directions of I-40 are closed between Exit 20, West of Asheville in North Carolina, and Exit 421 (I-81 Interchange) East of Knoxville in Tennessee due to a rock slide at mile marker 2.6 on I-40 in North Carolina. According to the NCDOT, I-40 probably won't reopen for a few more months.

If they weren't running the turbines so hard to keep Holston Lake under controll I would suggest the South Holston Rv. Gotta have a boat lately.
